How quickly can I get returns?

 

How much effort must I put in?

 

These are 2 questions I get very often, and in the last week, I’ve been asked this an inordinate number of times.

 

Let me be blunt.

 

If you want to to get money in a short amount of time, without putting in much effort…

… buy a lottery ticket.

 

The chances might be low, but given those criteria, it’s probably the best chance.

 

So how much time and effort does one need to put in to build a legitimate business?

 

The truth is…

 

… as much as it takes.

 

Ask any successful entrepreneur.  

 

They all took the approach that they needed to put in as much work, as much time, as they needed to make their business succeed.

 

Because they all knew what achieving that goal would mean.

 

That’s one of the reasons, we work closely with our students on their motivation for achieving that goal – if you know your motivation – if your reason for achieving your goal is strong enough, you will be able to weather the storms that will inadvertently come in the course of building a business.

 

Which is also why the bulk of our most successful students want to build a home business, not just for the money, but for what it means for their families, for more time to do important things, like volunteering in church or their communities.

 

It’s easy to let yourself down, but when you know the positive impact you can have from having a successful business, you won’t let all those people down.

 

Up to this point, you’re probably thinking that this article isn’t very helpful.

 

So let me get a little more specific.

 

Think of your goal as a destination in a journey.

 

A town you’d like to go to.  Let’s call it Successville.

 

Successville is 100km from where you live.

 

If you walked 1km a day, you’ll get there in a hundred days.

 

If you put in a lot more effort, and walked 10km a day, you’ll get there in 10 days.

 

So as you can see, the more time and effort you put in, the shorter your eventual journey will be.

 

But there’s other ways you can change that equation.

 

Perhaps invest in a bicycle.

 

You can then cycle 20km a day and get there in 5 days, possibly putting in less effort.

 

Or if you had more resources, invest in a car.  You might then get there in a day, with not a lot of effort.

 

The bicycle and car in this analogy, could be mentorship or systems to help you on your journey.

 

The one thing that you do need is a map.  

 

Without that map, you could be going in all different directions and that 100km journey could end up being a 1000km.

 

That map is a plan or a blueprint.

 

When I first started my online business, I invested in a blueprint.  It’s worked for many, so I believed it would work for me.

 

And then I invested in mentorship, and systems that will allow me to get there faster.

 

Of course I needed to put in the time and effort, and despite working a 12-15 hour day, I put in 3 hours a day, and quit my job in 2 months from the time I started.

 

I then went on to replace my lawyer’s income in 6 months.

 

Every journey is unique and some have taken a longer time, and some a shorter time to get to their individual goals.
