Why you must Tee-Off to succeed

Why you must Tee-Off to succeed

Tee off. You might take a few strokes to get the ball in the hole. Each stroke allows you to make small adjustments, and you’ll soon achieve your goal.

Do you golf?

And if so, have you ever gotten a hole in one?

If not, don’t beat yourself up over it.

Because getting a hole in one is so rare, when you do get a hole in one, you’re expected to buy everyone at the clubhouse drink

And while this can sound expensive, it’s covered in many golfers’ insurance policies.

Actuaries have therefore studied the chances of golfers getting a hole in one, and they calculated the “risk” of it to be 12,500 to 1 for an average golfer, and 2,500 to 1 for a tour professional.

On the other hand, every golfer, regardless of how well or badly they play, will eventually get the ball in the hole.

Not some golfers, but EVERY golfer.

And that’s a huge lesson in business.

If you think of business success as a “hole in one”, you might as well not tee off.  The chances are too small.

However, if you think business success as “getting the ball in the hole”, the objective of golf, then you need to tee off, because if you don’t tee off, you’ll never get the ball in the hole.

Once you tee off, your ball is going to be nearer the hole (hopefully) 😀

It might have gone straight, left, or right.  But that next stroke is going to progress the ball closer to the hole again.

And eventually, that daunting task of getting the ball in the hole from several hundred yards away, has become, rolling the ball into the hole with a putter from several yards.

After you do that several times, you get better, your scores improve.

It’s the same for business.

If we think of our business with the big goals, we’ll always be too daunted to tee off.

On the other hand, if we allow ourselves to take the imperfect action, and then to make course corrections along the way, we progress steadily, and eventually achieve our goal.

If we’re consistent, and never give up, like golfers, everyone will get to that goal.

And when we do that often enough, your business results improve.

Which is why I always tell students to take little steps, but to take them consistently – daily if possible, even if it’s for a really short time.

That way the cumulation of the little actions don’t feel so tiresome, and before you know it, you’re making that putt, within reach of your goal.

Keep taking those little steps, and before you know it, you’ll be at your goal!
