Why you mustn’t “see it to believe it”

Why you mustn’t “see it to believe it”

When you believe, you will take the correct action to see the results you want. Conversely, seeing first to believe, has caused many to take the wrong steps.

“You’ve got to believe to see, not see to believe.”

That’s what I find myself saying to a group of startup online business owners time and again.

Our natural tendency is that we want to see something in order to believe it.

But the only way we can get our businesses to work, is to believe in it first.  Only then can we see the results.

I’m not talking about “visualization” or “belief” in isolation.

What happens when we believe first

When we believe in our businesses, we take the action that we need to take, in order to get the results that we want to get.

If we want to build a million dollar business, we’ll start coming up with a plan – what will it take to build a million dollar business.

We’ll figure out how many customers we need, how many leads we need to generate in order to get that number of customers.

And then if we know we can’t get that number of customers, we’ll start taking action to close that gap – perhaps getting a mentor, or a partner to help us get to that goal.

When an obstacle gets in our way, we work around it, because we already believe that we can get to our goal.

What happens when we want to see before we believe

Conversely, if we start with wanting to see before we believe, the opposite happens.

We will start off with the mindset that we’re “testing” our business.

We want to see if it “really works” before we believe that it will work.

What happens is that when we encounter an obstacle, it affirms our belief that we were right to be cautious.

We tested it and it failed.  “Phew, it’s a good thing we were cautious!”

When I first started my online business, I didn’t know if it would succeed.

But I definitely believed it would.

Please don’t get me wrong, I’m not advocating “fake it till you make it”.

In fact, back then, when asked how much money I had made online, I readily told people the truth, even if the truth was “less than 3 figures”.

That’s because authenticity and integrity are the key ingredients in any business these days.

There’s so much hype and fluff out there that authenticity and integrity are rare – and anything rare is valuable.

What I’m saying is that belief in my business drove me to take action, to market my business, to get the help I needed to achieve the results I wanted to achieve.

Will you believe in the results you want to get?
