Is that camera spying on you?

Am back from Tokyo, where it was just food, food and more food, and I’ve been catching up on my emails and the news…

If I’ve taken longer than usual to reply to your emails, I’m sorry… even home business owners need a break right?

There’s been controversy around airlines putting cameras on their in-flight entertainment systems to record user behaviour.

And their doing this in the name of customer service, so that they can better tailor services provided to their customers.

Sitting in my airline seat on the way home, I’m wondering…  

“what’s the big deal?”  

I mean, you’re sitting in a public place, with hundreds of other strangers who can already see everything you’re doing…  

It’s not like their watching you in your home…

And then it dawned on me that services like Google’s Home, and Amazon’s Alexa have been listening to us in our homes.

It’s a necessary function to make the devices work.  They need to always listen for “hey Google” or “hey Alexa”, so that they can carry out your instructions.

I have a Google Home device on my bedside table, so I’m guessing Google probably knows all my deepest, darkest secrets.

All this has privacy advocates up in arms.

In my view, what can be achieved is to have laws enacted to drive the responsible use of data.

But there’s no turning back the wheels of data collection.

So, we have 2 choices.  

We can can complain about all of this, while the world goes by, or we can learn to use it, to get our time and financial freedom.

For example, you’re likely to be reading this after watching one of my Youtube videos, or reading one of my Facebook posts.  Based on everything Google and Facebook knows about us, you were shown my post or video.

When we market online, we can target what is known as “user intent”.

Imagine if someone is looking to purchase a pair of shoes for a marathon, or to purchase air tickets to go on holiday.

If we learn to market well, we can use all of the data that Google, Amazon, Facebook, etc have on us, and show our advertisements only to people who are interested in buying.

You might think that you have nothing to sell, but imagine if you’re able to sell, any brand of shoes for that marathon, from Nike, to Adidas, and you’re able to make recommendations based on their preferences, so that they get the best shoe for their needs.

That’s what we can do as affiliates – we’re not exclusive to any brand, we can represent as many brands as we wish.  

(I personally draw the line at only recommending what I use and has worked well for me.)  

We don’t need to hold stock, so we’re not bogged down by warehousing or cash-flow issues.  We just get paid commissions for making sales.

Quite simply, we have the freedom to just putting the right product, in front of the right person, at the right time.

That way, your sales happen on autopilot.  You don’t need to persuade anyone, because they’re already looking for that.  And those sales happen 24/7 whether you’re on holiday, or asleep.

And all this is only possible because of the data that Google, Amazon, Facebook, etc have on us.
