Sometimes our lives may seem like it’s a random chaotic mess of occurrences. We may blame bad decisions, or someone else, but the truth is that what and where we are in life is the outcome of cause and effect.

This may seem simplistic, but when we choose to look at things this plainly, we have no choice but to confront the fact that we can change our future.

If we want better outcomes, we need to have better causes leading to better effects.

This is the simple law of cause and effect.

I’ve said this before, but it bears repeating – the greatest gift given to man is the gift of free choice.

Man is free to make his decisions. Decisions are one of the causes in our lives that will lead to certain outcomes whether desirable for us or not. Decisions are causes that are within our control. Sometimes things get in the way of our decisions and plans. These are the other category of causes, those that are beyond our control. Those are the ones that we need to learn to deal with, in order reach our desired outcomes. The way to deal with causes that are beyond our control, is to apply a decision to them.

For example, how did we are stuck in a job that we really don’t enjoy? Looking at things simplistically, through a series of causes and effects. Some of those may have been within our control, such as not choosing our college major carefully enough, but others may be outside our control, such as the economic situation at the time we were applying for the job.

If we do nothing, the status quo will perpetuate.

However, if we want to change our situation, what we need to do is to apply another cause – we could start looking for a different job, or initiate a change in our careers.

Using myself as an example, I was a corporate lawyer for 20 years – largely because I come from a family of lawyers. The hours were long, and I wanted to have a lot more family time, and time to do things that were important to me. If I changed jobs, and worked somewhere else as a corporate lawyer, it would be more of the same. If I changed professions, it would have meant a severe pay cut. The alternative was to reskill to take advantage of the technology that would allow me to replace a lawyers income using automated processes that were not available until the last few years.

That decision, was a cause that changed the trajectory of my life, allowing me to run a profitable* business from home, without the overheads usually associated with businesses, such as having rent or employees.

Seeing how this is possible, ignited a passion within me to show as many people as possible that they do not need to be stuck in jobs that they dreaded going to. This led me to make another decision – to start showing people that they too can take advantage of automation to drastically change their lives.
