2 Unexpected Foundations Of Success
The moment we know who we are, why we are doing something, we’ll always run a business that is fulfilling to us, and have the motivation to overcome challenge.
As students start on the journey of building their online or home businesses with us, I’m often asked why there’s so much emphasis on…
… “who you are”, and
… “why you are doing this”
Often our students sign up, thinking that this is going to be just a bunch of steps that leads them to what they think the end goal should be – how to make money with an online business.
Well, an online business is a tool.
What we want for our students, is what I wanted for myself…
… greater fulfilment, and
… greater security.
Having a successful business that you can run from home is just one part of that equation.
That business alone, isn’t going to give you that increased fulfilment or security.
For one, business environments change. And if you only know how to run one type of business, then when that changes or gets disrupted, that security goes away.
It’s no different from me being in my corporate law job. When that environment changed, because of changes to the Board of Directors, or new technologies that made lawyering less labour intensive, my security changed.
And if you don’t know why you’re doing something, then it’s easy to not face and overcome the challenges that inevitably occur when you’re running a business.
The moment our students know who they are, and why they are doing this, they’ll always be able to find a way of running a business that’s fulfilling to them, and have the motivation to overcome obstacles that come their way.
All the tools that we provide build on the foundation of who you are, and why you want to do this.
While that may sound simple, many find that to be an incredible challenge.
A lot of us, have buried those concepts in our minds.
For 20 years, I did a corporate law job. In my mind, who I was, was a successful corporate lawyer. Over the years I built that identity, and in many ways, that identity just became a mask for who the real me was.
As for why I did that job – there were so many reasons – it paid well, I got the education for it, it was prestigious, it fed my ego, it put food on the table, paid for the nice house, car, etc…
So, when I started on my online business journey, these were questions that I struggled to answer too.
Once I did have those answers clearly in my mind though, it transcended every area of my life, and made me a better person in every way.
It also gave me a firm foundation upon which to build my online business.
Which is one of the big contributors to me replacing my income in 6 months from the time I signed up.
I had to answer those questions within that time period – and without getting that clear in my head, it’s hard to say if I would have ever succeeded at running any business.
What’s more is that having these answers clear in my mind enabled me to spin off into various other businesses and opportunities – all of which are fulfilling for me.
The moment you have various streams of income, security is automatically increased, because if any of those change, you’ve got other streams.
Don’t short cut the process and try to jump straight into building your business.
