Why everyone needs to celebrate Independence Day

If you enjoy not being “owned” by someone, you owe the American Declaration Of Independence a great deal. Let’s celebrate our ability to choose how we live.

 

I hope you had an awesome Independence Day!

 

A huge thank you to all Americans for giving the world this awesome gift!

 

And even if you’re, like me, not American, I think we should all celebrate Independence Day.

 

Why?

 

Quite simply, at the founding of the United States, the prevailing world order believed that human life belonged to either the monarch, the Pope or the state…

 

… that some men, were created greater than others, and that lesser men belonged to greater.

 

Everything we take for granted today…

 

… that we have the right to make our own decisions

 

… that our governments exist to serve those who elected them

 

… that all of us are equals

 

… we owe to the American Declaration Of Independence.

 

Quoting from the Declaration Of Independence…

 

“… the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind…

 

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

 

This is the first time a country declared human kind to be free, and allowed to make our own decisions.  To choose to pursue happiness.

 

Being created equal, also means that we are all not just allowed to pursue happiness, but that we’re actually able to.

 

During my 20 year corporate law career, I was involved in my fair share of startup deals, typically representing the investor.

 

I would marvel at the startup entrepreneur.  How they created something they were proud of, and then got it to a point where someone would be prepared to invest into.

 

I wondered if I had the same ability.

 

The truth is, we’re all gifted in different ways, but we’re all gifted.

 

We’re not created identical, but created equal.

 

Our differences are our unique gifts to the world.

 

When I chose to do the things that were really important to me, I was choosing to be happy.  I chose to prioritise doing those things.

 

And so, I left that corporate law career, and started building an online home business.

 

I wasn’t like those startup entrepreneurs, and so I did things differently from them.

 

I had my insecurities, like not being a technologist, or being overweight, but embraced them.

 

That allowed me to run my own home business, and replace my income within 6 months.

 

So this Independence Day, let me say to you…

 

You have the right to be happy.

 

This right comes through you being able to choose to be happy.

 

This right comes with a responsibility to all those you love, to choose to be happy.

 

You are able to make that choice.

 

You have every capability to.

 

Even if you believe you have weaknesses, embrace them, for those weaknesses are really just how you’re different from everyone else, and are your gift to the world.

 

Your right to make those choices, means that you need to give that gift to the world.  It’s your responsibility to.

 

Happy Independence Day!
