Are You SMART? SMART Target Setting – Best Way to Achieve Goals

As a part of our Goal Setting series, today, we will cover SMART Target Setting

Are you SMART?  Of course you are. Otherwise you wouldn’t even have taken the step to opt into receiving this 🙂  And that’s why you’re reading about SMART target setting.

Before we move on in our Goal Setting Series, specifically SMART target setting, there’s something that I wanted to share.

SCHOOL’S OUT

It’s Teachers’ Day in Singapore today, and that means that school’s out. Before I started living my life on my terms, school being out meant having to take time off work, or making arrangements for someone to look after the kids. But now, it means being able to wake up late, slow family breakfast. Life’s really changed for me. And my mission is now to help you change your life too.

Oh, and if you’re a teacher, ‘Happy Teacher’s Day!’

Family Breakfast - SMART TARGET SETTING

The key to getting to that changed state is to do things differently. This may be obvious, but you can’t keep doing the same thing and expecting different results.

HOW TO SET YOUR GOALS

So I said at the start of this Goal Setting Series, that you need to make sure that you are setting out to achieve your goals. Not somebody else’s goals but yours. And the way we said that was you’re your ladder, needs to be on your wall. So that by the time you reach the top of that wall, you’ve achieved your goals.

Then we said that if you commit to taking one step at a time, even though each step may seem small, you will eventually reach the top of that ladder. And in my last post, I left you with the 3 success attributes. If you missed any of those. They’re right here on my blog.

So the next logical step is to define each of these steps that you need to take, up that ladder.

HOW TO USE SMART TARGET SETTING

And here’s where we apply SMART in determining what each of our steps are – so each step must be Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, Timely

Specific

Specific steps are easier to visualize and to execute up on then vague, general steps. The more specific you can be, the easier it will be to achieve it. For example, if I say my goal is to lose weight, that’s too vague. A more specific goal will be, lower my calorie intake by 5% over 1 month.

Measurable

You need to have an objective criteria for measuring if you’ve achieved taking that step that you’ve set to attain your goal. So, using that same example, unless you know how many calories you’re taking in, it’s going to be really difficult measuring how many calories you need to lower to attain your 5% deficit.

Acheivable

If the steps to high or far away from the last one, our human psyche tells us to give up and not to even try. So, if I said to lower calorie intake by 20%, I may not even want to try, just because it seems too difficult. I would lost even before I’ve started.

Relevant

The step needs to be relevant. Now that your ladder is on the right wall, you need to put a relevant step on that ladder. If your goal is weight loss, then having a step that’s to make 50 doughnuts in 2 days will be completely irrelevant.

Timely

The step must be taken in a timely manner. As I’ve said in a previous post, a goal without a timeline is merely a dream. So, commit to taking each step within a given time, and you’ll soon achieve your goal!

HOW I’M DOING WITH MY GOALS

Now, when I started doing the SFM, my written goal in March was to lose 30 pounds and make $5,000 within 6 months, ie by August this year.

I worked really hard with my SFM coaches and mentors on these goals.  Would you believe that my SFM coaches were the ones who got my weight loss done as well?

My weight loss goal

I’m glad to report that the weight loss goal has been achieved. I was about 100kg when I started, and am now about 85kg. That’s 15kg, or 33 pounds (my goals were set with SFM coach Mark Ford, a Brit, hence pounds).  On below is my weight loss chart extracted from myfitnesspal.com

My financial goals

I have also achieved my financial goals. In fact several times over. But it’s not appropriate to talk about money in polite company 🙂 and I’m fairly close to replacing my attorney’s pay check. Now, if you want proof of this, get in touch with me, and I’ll gladly show you my statements.

But, the best thing is, I get to live my Ideal Day everyday.

This could be you too. Now that I’ve achieved my goal, I really want to help you do the same. Now, I understand that this may not be for everyone. Actually, no, I can’t understand why anyone wouldn’t want to live their ideal day. Anyway, if you’re not sure about this, you can try it out for free here.

This is the exact same system that allowed me to transform my life in this radical way.

Over 23,000 students have benefited from this proven business system, the step by step training (you don’t need to be tech savvy), and the top level mentorship, that you get as a part of being a Six Figure Mentor student.

You owe it to yourself and your family – try it free today.

See you on the other side!
