MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE WITH THE PROGRAM

I started with the Modern Wealthy and Launch You (formerly known as Six Figure Mentors) in February 2016. 

Back then I was deciding what to do with my career and life.

Choosing To Leave A 20 Year Corporate Law Career To Be Modern Wealthy

I had been a corporate lawyer for 20 years, since 1996, and had an incredibly blessed career.  I met all my career goals and was still in my early 40s. 

Having reached my career goals, with all the sacrifices in time, family moments, etc to get there, and with nowhere further to climb, I quickly realized the view from the top wasn’t what I thought it would be. 

I found myself frustrated, angry even, and trapped in a high-income career that I no longer found meaningful.

Needing To ‘Sell’ Something For The First Time…

On Valentine’s Day 2016, over dinner, my wife and I spoke about my rapidly growing guitar collection. 

We were about to move to house move and I had to decide if I was going to keep all the guitars.

Being highly paid with too much money and not enough time, I had a collection of over 50 guitars that I never played.  My wife suggested I sell them ahead of the house move.

After dinner, I went home, and started searching ‘how to sell guitars online’.  I had never sold a thing before in my life at that stage!

It was then that I heard this guy on the internet, Stuart Ross, say, if you learn to sell one thing,  you’ll learn to sell anything. 

“Nice”, I thought.  If I learnt to sell guitars, maybe I can start a new career.  Seemed like a stretch but what did I have to lose?

I signed up, and never sold a guitar. 

I did however, learn to sell.

6-Figure-Business In 6-Months Timeline

• February 2016 – Signed up with Six Figure Mentors (now Modern Wealthy, Launch You), started learning how to sell online.
• June/July 2016 – Launched business
• August 2016 – Had my first USD30k month and effectively replaced my monthly income. (Bear in mind that this income took me 20 years plus law school to build to.)
• A year later, I had built a 7 figure business.

“But Isn’t Modern Wealthy & Launch You A Scam?”

Along the way, I got discouraged more than once when I came across negative reviews of Modern Wealthy and Launch You.  

While I recognized that every product or service will have negative reviews, those reviews nearly caused me to quit Modern Wealthy & Launch You, and that would have cost me having the life I now enjoy, and continue being stuck in the 9 to 5 (in my case more like 9 to 9) grind.

I then learnt about a ‘tactic’ being taught by some online ‘gurus’. This capitalized on the common fear of being scammed to make money.

This is how they do it.

1. They find a product that’s doing well, because lots of people will want more information about it.
2. Write a review calling it a scam, because lots of people will be wondering if it is a scam.
3. Conclude their review by saying, “instead, try this product” and promote their own product!

Sadly, this unethical marketing ‘tactic’ is becoming increasingly common, and nearly caused me to get stuck in the corporate grind. 

It could be worse. I actually ended up falling for that unethical marketing tactic, purchased their product, and then never hearing from them again!

Which turned out to be a blessing.

Someone I knew from the community bought another product, and wasted 6 months and all his capital trying it.

People who resort to these tactics are desperate, and falling for them will cause you to waste your money, effort, and worst of all, time! 

I don’t want that for you. 

I want you to be able to make an informed decision, and so, I will be going into a great deal of detail in this review.  This will be an “every thing you need to know” review, and will take xxx minutes to read.

Step 1: Foundations

All businesses start in the Prepare phase and the first step of preparation is to build a strong foundation.

You will also learn to take into account your own strengths and preferences in deciding which of these will best suit you.  For instance, a person who doesn’t enjoy interacting with others might not want to be a coach or consultant, and instead choose to sell via e-commerce.

Once you have selected the best business model for you, you will need to determine your niche.

Step 3: Niche

This is something you need to consider carefully. 

Launch You will take you through the various considerations:

1. Is it an area that you are interested in or passionate about?
2. Is there a large enough market?
3. Are there gaps in the market that you can fill?
4. Can you partner with someone who is already successful in that niche?
5. Can you reach your financial and lifestyle goals?

Having successfully identified your business model and niche, you will be led through an exercise to understand your customer so that you can best serve them.

Step 4: Avatar

The most successful businesses are the ones that serve their customers best.  Business schools call that ‘value add’.

To serve you, or value add to you, I need to understand the problem you’re facing so that I can help you solve it.  If I add value to you in this article, you may choose to be my customer. 

Launch You helps you understand your customer in your chosen niche so that you can serve them, and by doing that, help you attract the right customer for your business.  This is the complete opposite of being a pushy salesman!  Done right, your customers will want to buy from you because you’re helping them so much!

This is done with a Customer Avatar exercise that gives you complete clarity of who your ideal customer is, and how you can serve them best.

Once you understand your ideal customer, you can start to develop your brand strategy.

Step 5: Branding

If you’ve taken my program, Mastery Not Required, or any of my business programs, you’ll have heard me say that one of the biggest mistakes new business owners make, is spending time on things other than making money – and one of those big time wasters I point out time and time again is branding.

Not that branding’s not important – in my programs I say that it is – it’s just something you don’t waste time on in the beginning because it can end up being a huge black hole.

You need a website, landing pages, they need to talk to your email system, checkout pages to accept payments, giving access to your products, and the list goes on and on and on.

There’s this common misunderstanding that Launch You only teaches you to market their products. That couldn’t be further from the truth. My affiliate business does market Launch You. I worked with a ‘canteen lady’ from Perth, Western Australia.  Using software included in the Digital Business Lounge, we helped her set up a business where she helped e-book authors convert their book covers into 3 dimensional book, all using software that was included in her $99 a month bundle.

In 2019, I partnered with Asia’s premier golf club fitter to launch an new club fitting business as a 50% shareholder. I provided input on social media, to e-commerce, online appointment booking, etc, which require just require one time setup, and work on autopilot thereafter.  The business and brand have since been featured on major regional professional golf events.  But importantly, with the skills I had learnt, within 2 months from launch, we were 5 figures profitable.

There’s a huge demand for services just like these, and you can earn by offering them for a price (like the canteen lady from Perth), or you could offer them for a significant stake in a business partnership, and build substantial income streams.

Model 3: Information & Knowledge Products

Next, if you have a skill or a passion you can also learn to monetize that by offering coaching online or your own digital products, such as e-books or courses.

A great example of that is Purpostry and Mastery Not Required.  I’m passionate about teaching people my method of creating multiple income streams fast. 

I believe that everyone needs to have multiple income streams if they want to be able to live meaningful lives instead of being tied to a job.  At the same time, I’ve found that most people struggle to create multiple income streams, while I didn’t. 

So, I started teaching my way of creating multiple income streams, using a system called Purpostry that helps you discover and use your purpose instead of striving for mastery, because mastery simply takes too long and is too stressful.

As you can see, I make pretty good money with these programs.

And you can be just as excited about your business.  But beyond that, unlike physical products…

…digital knowledge & information products have no inventory, stock holding costs etc.  You don’t need to buy the products, or store them.  You create them once and sell them as many times as you want. 

That’s infinitely scalable income!

I’m often asked what I would do to reach 7 figures a year if I were to start from scratch again, and this is the exact model I would choose.  In fact, I’ve taught a course about it!

Model 4: E-commerce

E-commerce refers to selling physical goods online.

This is less profitable than selling knowledge & information products.

The main reason people don’t want to sell information products despite the massive business potential, is that they don’t want to be ‘visible’ online. 

And that’s completely understandable.  In fact, of the over 1000 active Launch You students I’ve spoken 1 on 1 with, over 50% had reservations about being visible online, although after they saw the opportunity that dropped to under 30%. 

For those who would still prefer to be invisible online, the best thing to do is to sell physical goods.

While it’s not as profitable as selling information or knowledge products, you can still have a very healthy business.

Learn to Sell On Marketplaces, for example, Amazon

During the pandemic, I launched a kitchenware product line, and with our experience in marketing, (remember – once you learn to sell something, you learn to sell anything), we were the number 2 product on Amazon within the first week of launch. Read about it here.

I also told you about me getting involved in the golf business, and that was selling physical products too, but on our own store.

3. Personal Development – if you intend to start a business using purely technical training, this might not be for you – there is a lot of focus on helping you grow as a person as well, since the belief is that how much you make is a direct function of your personal growth
4. Lifestyle Business focus – if you intend to start a world dominating business like Apple or AirBnB, this isn’t for you.  The sort of business you will learn to start in Launch You are lifestyle businesses.
5. Not fully passive – if you’re looking for pure passive income, this isn’t for you.  Launch You businesses require work upfront, setting up the automation, and then a lesser amount of work moving forward to maintain the business.
