Habits: The good, the bad, the ugly…
Good habits and bad habits both have a great impact on whether or not we succeed. Developing good habits can help you succeed effortlessly, and bad habits, can lead bad outcomes a lot sooner than expected.
The good habits
As is my usual habit these days, I was at the gym bashing away at the weights with the help of my personal trainer for a couple of hours this morning.
With his guidance, I’ve stepped up on my training, protein intake, etc.
All good habits, so far…
The bad habits
I noticed I’ve stopped getting the amazing results that I used to get, and it seems to take so much more effort these days, and I started to wonder why.
Then it occurred to me.
There is a good habit that I had, that I slowly slipped out of – or rather a bad habit that I developed. I had previously shot a video about the power of good habits, and how they can be developed in 90 days. In the same way it takes 90 days to develop a good habit, it takes 90 days to develop a bad habit.
The ugly habits
In this case, I had developed the bad habit of snacking in between meals. It’s a habit I never had, until in about 4 months ago, I moved my home office to my recording studio, which happens to be right by the kitchen. I started ‘popping out’ for a snack every now and then, and before I knew it, it was a habit.
Habits drive outcomes a lot more than activities that are non-habitual. When I first started my SFM journey, working with my SFM mentors on good eating habits, I lost over 30 pounds of fat in a few short weeks without even really trying. I even looked back at that time, and wondered how I did it!
In the last couple of months, I’ve put on close to 10 pounds of fat while trying my best to keep on working out – all because I developed a bad habit of snacking!
Keep working on those good habits, they’ll make your success feel effortless, and before you know it, you’ll be successful and wonder how that ever happened!
